Our conductor, Gerald Nadeau, recently moved to Penticton from Ottawa where he had an extensive career as a musician and music educator. He has his Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto Diploma in Trumpet, and has a trumpet degree from McGill University in Montreal. Mr. Nadeau began his professional career as a trumpeter in Canada's RCMP Band and moved on to a career in the education system in various upper-level capacities in Quebec and Ontario. He also has his Permanent Specialist Certificate in Instrumental Music for Secondary Schools from the Ontario Department of Education, and has been the head of music departments of two high schools in the Ottawa area: Eastview High School, and Andre Laurenbeau High School. He has acted as a curriculum advisor for instrumental music in secondary schools, as well as a music consultant to the Ontario Ministry of Education (OME). He has taught instrumental music at music leadership camps for the OME, has been a music supervisor at summer camps for the Quebec Ministry of the Arts, and adjudicated at music festivals. Mr. Naudeau's career highlights have involved his work with students. In particular, his high school band, after winning in the local festival, was selected to perform for the opening of the National Arts Centre in Ottawa in 1969. Currently, Mr. Nadeau teaches private trumpet and brass lessons at the Penticton Academy of Music (250 493-7977), and directs the Penticton Concert Band.
